Brent Matthew Reid was born July 24, 1979, in Panorama City, California, to Richard Lawrence Reid and Susan Jean (Mayrant) Reid. He was married to Bethany Joy (Archer) Reid and had four children: Liam Allen (9), Ethan Lawrence (8), Oliver Haddon (5), and Autumn Jean (3). Brent is survived by his two brothers, Bryan (Karen) Reid and Scott (Susan) Reid, and his sister Andrea (Terry) Frink.
Brent’s family moved to South Lake Tahoe when he was still a baby. Growing up there, he went to Tahoe Valley Elementary and South Tahoe Middle School where he was on a ski team and played Little League baseball. The family lived there until Brent was almost 14 when they moved to Amarillo, Texas.
Brent was a man of many, many talents. He was very musical and sang and played the guitar and the drums. He also attended audio engineering school in Phoenix, AZ, and worked in a recording studio in Los Angeles for awhile. Brent was very talented in sports and worked for Graves Golf Academy in Oklahoma City, teaching and administrating. He had advanced scuba diving certificates and taught scuba and cave diving as well.
At age 27, Brent was involved in a significant car accident. He said that God used this to get his attention and woke him up to his spiritual need for Christ. He started attending a local church in Oklahoma City where he heard the Gospel and trusted Christ for salvation. He became passionate about the Lord and about serving in church ministry, and was able to use his musical talents at various churches where he led the worship services.
Brent worked for Children of the Nations for three years and served in the Dominican Republic and Sierra Leone, Africa. He headed up the administration at the Missions House and organized various missions teams and work projects.
Brent later became an Executive Pastor at Crosspointe Church where he helped share in the responsibilities for the preaching services and baptisms. He also organized the logistics of the tear down and setup each week, organized all the meetings of the midweek community groups, and took care of all the administrative responsibilities of the membership rolls and bookkeeping.
Brent really loved to spend time with his wife and kids and took them often to local amusements parks and went backpacking, horseback riding, and snowboarding with them. He was very patient with his kids and spent time home-schooling them, teaching them about the Lord, doing handyman work around the house, and instilling various life skills.
Brent will be greatly missed by his many friends and his precious family.
