Billy Freeman Smith, 84, passed away at his home on November 28, 2022. Billy was born on April 4, 1938 to Charlie and Vertie Smith in Galax, VA., and raised on the New River. He joined the United States Army at age 17, and served 2 years in Korea. After returning home, he began his lifelong career driving, many years at Continental Trailways. During that time he met his wife, Linda and together had their son Daniel (Danny) in Knoxville, TN after moving there from Galax. He then continued his career at United Parcel Service (UPS) from which he later retired after 20 years. He spent his retired years driving many bus trips organized by Linda with friends all over the country. He also spent most of his retired years helping his son Danny with their business B&C Transportation of Maryville. He was a dedicated and selfless man, who was always ready to lend a hand with a smile and a laugh. He was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church and a Gideon. As a man of God and a son of Jesus, he led as an example to everyone in his life. He was preceded in death by his parents,Charlie and Vertie Smith; sister, Norma Henley. He is survived by his wife, Linda Smith; son, Daniel Smith (Chris); and sister, Brenda Combs; grandchildren, Taylor, Riley, and Jaxson; also several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Saturday, December 3, 2022 from 3-4 p.m. at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church (in the Activities Center) Maryville, TN. Service will follow at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Raymond Burnett officiating. Family will meet at 12:30 for Interment Monday, December 5, 2022 at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on Gov. John Sevier Hwy.
