Billy Ray Grubb, Sr. 76, of Knoxville, passed away at his home on October 8, 2017 with his family by his side. Bill was born in Knoxville on December 19, 1940 and served his country as a member of the U.S. Army until being honorably discharged. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Fifth Ave Baptist Church for 50 years. Bill was a loyal and faithful employee for Dixie Box Company for 18 years and was the go-to man for box making, delivery, driving, and maintenance. Although never a Boy Scout as a child, Bill treasured his Boy Scout days as an adult and made up for lost time by being active in the Boy Scouts as a Leader for Sequoyah Troop #633, and for Echota Troop #509. He and his wife, Norma Jean, shared equal passion for the Scouts, and would work together in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Bill enjoyed watching sports and was an avid VOLS fan. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Ray, a baby in Heaven that he’s holding now. Billy leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 46 years, Norma Jean ; son, Billy Ray, II; daughter, June Marie; three brothers, James Robert Dodrill, Ira Carl Dodrill, and Michael Earl Dodrill; and his four-legged companion, his teacup chihuahua, Gurly—all who will miss him dearly. Funeral Services will be held for Bill at 1 pm on Thursday, October 12 at Berry Highland South, 9010 W. Simpson Rd, Knoxville 37920. The family will receive friends from 11 am until service time. Interment will follow at the cemetery with Military Honors. Condolences can be offered at www.berryhighlandsouth.com
