Billy "Bill" Gene Ferguson, age 78, of Knoxville, TN passed away peacefully on Monday, June 27, 2022 at UT Medical Center. His goal was to live to 100 and even though he didn’t quite make it; he touched many lives in the time he was here. Bill loved golf and fishing and was so disappointed when his health prevented from enjoying these activities. He loved his family fiercely and was ready to do battle with anyone he felt might harm someone he loved. Bill was a loyal friend and could remember the names of teachers and classmates going back to elementary school. If you were Bill’s friend, you were a friend for life. He was a proud Rule High School Golden Bear and was proud of his Lonsdale roots. Bill loved to tell of the adventures and sometimes misadventures he and his friends and siblings got into growing up. He was a proud member of Bookwalter United Methodist Church.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Ferguson; sisters, Imogene Burleson, Joyce Ferguson; brothers, J.W. and Gary Ferguson. Also preceded in death by best buds, Dean Lewis, Clyde Long and Herbie Plumlee. He is survived by his wife and caregiver of 44 years, Pamela Berrier Ferguson; daughter, Teresa (Doug) Tabler; grandchildren, Zachary (Maddie), Cameron; great-granddaughter, Jovie; brothers, Harry and Paul (Susie); sister, Felma Fine; many nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. Bill is also survived by his extended family in the Roanoke, Virginia area that he felt so blessed to get to know and grew to love.
Family will receive friends Thursday, June 30th from 5-7pm at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home with funeral service following at 7pm. Rev. Stephen K. Doyal officiating. Burial will be Friday, July 1st at 11am meeting at French Broad Community Church Cemetery, 3306 Brethren Church Road, White Pine, TN 37890. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Bookwalter UMC Children’s Department, The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), or to a charity of your choosing.
