Greene, Betty Jean (Carroll) –age 78 of Knoxville went to be with the Lord on January 6, 2011. Betty loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She shared special memories with them and made each one feel like they were her favorite. She had a great sense of humor and was loved and respected by all who knew her. She was an excellent cook who welcomed everyone to her table. Betty loved the Lord and desired that everyone would know Him and live for Him. She was a member of Blount Avenue Baptist Church. Preceding her in death were her parents, Earnest H. Carroll and Novella C. Medlock; husband, Dennis K. Greene; daughter, Connie Kirby; and brother, Robert Carroll. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Virginia Mulkey and Buddy, Brenda Jolly and Dwayne, and Deborah Greene (the special daughter she cared for for 51 yrs. until she was no longer able); son-in-law, Rick Kirby; grandchildren and their spouses: Jennifer King, Chris Mulkey, Jeffrey Mulkey, Lori Kirby Sowers and Joel, Michael Kirby and Jessica, Amanda Denton Weaver and Stacy, and Scott Denton; great grandchildren: Jodie and Jacob King, Riley Evatt, Dawson Mulkey, and Lilly Sowers; brothers and sisters: Charlie Carroll, Dorothy McDaniel, Mary McLaney, Carolyn Wright, and Earnest Carroll, Jr. all of Jefferson County. The family will receive friends at McCarty-Evergreen Funeral Home from 2-4pm on Sunday, January 9th. A funeral service will follow at 4pm with Pastor Byron Chambers officiating.
