Barry Eugene Smith Sr.

Barry Eugene Smith Sr., age 77 of Seymour, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024. After high school he joined the Marines to serve his country. Barry went to Vietnam in 1965 and was with the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines. After serving 13 months in Vietnam, he went on to be Sergeant of Guard of Presidents Johnson and Nixon's Presidential helicopter. He was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN. Barry loved spending time with his family especially his beloved granddaughter, Kaylea.

Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Sr and Janet Smith; brother, Carl Jr. Smith. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Wanda (Sampsell) Smith; son, Barry Jr (Jennifer) Smith; granddaughter, Kaylea Smith; sister, Sherry (Tom) Carns; several nieces and nephews and family.

The family will receive friends Monday, January 29, 2024 at Valley Grove Baptist Church from 9:30 A.M to 11:00 A.M, a service will follow with Reverend Keith Vaughan officiating. A private interment will take place at a later date at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
