Alfred Eugene Hurst, “Big Al”, age 74, a legendary South Knoxville youth football coach went to celebrate his final championship with the Lord on Saturday, August 22, 2015. “Big Al” was a former City of Knoxville Chief Mechanical Inspector and a member of Meridian Baptist Church. Preceded in death by parents, James and Gladys Hurst; sister, Edna Nichols; stepson, Billy Kittel; and former wife, Sue Dukes. Survived by wife of 17 years, Patricia Hurst; sons, Dusty, Rock, and Casey; step-daughters, Dawn (Donna) Hall, and Stephanie Dunn; step-son, Chad (Tammy) Kittel; granddaughters, Ali (Johnathan) Shelton, Abbie Hurst; step-grandchildren, Cody Hayes, Caleb, Haven, and Nevah Dyer; brother, Chick Nichols; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Family will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway, on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 from 6:00-8:00pm with service to follow at 8:00pm with Rev. Bob Dukes officiating. Family and friends will meet Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Woodlawn Cemetery for a 2:00pm graveside service.
