Adelyn "Lyn" Oneida (Cathey) Edwards, age 91, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. She was at her home with her son by her side. She had fought a 6 year battle with Alzheimer's and stage 4 breast cancer. She carried on during these years with the quiet determined strength and dignity that all knew her for.
Adelyn (Lyn) was born August 25, 1930 in Royce City, Texas, northeast of Dallas, to Nolan Lee Cathey and Winnifred Elizabeth Knipp Cathey in an upstairs room of her grandfathers farmhouse.
Lyn grew up in Austin, Texas where she attended school. She was very smart and skipped a grade or two along the way. Lyn went through her Junior year in high school at Austin High before moving to Huntsville, Alabama where she graduated from Athens Bible School. It was there in Huntsville that she met the love of her life, Cola LaVerne Edwards, while attending the Lincoln Church of Christ. They were married on December 25, 1949. This was the only day that LaVerne's Air Force Commanding Officer could guarantee that he would be home from the Korean conflict. Lyn and Vern, as they were affectionately known, moved to Knoxville, Tennessee where Vern would graduate with a degree in Business Administration. Lyn had already completed her degree in Accounting in Nashville. Lyn and Vern spent the majority of their married life in Knoxville, Tennessee. Lyn was a dynamic and respected business woman. She was Vice President and an Owner of Alliance Press, Inc with her son, Matt. She was previously an Owner and Officer of C&E Building Corporation of Signal Mountain, TN with her father Nolan Lee Cathey. However, Lyn was known and loved mostly for her ability to lift people up and strengthen them during difficult times in their lives. Her son will be eternally grateful for her and his fathers' nurturing and growing of his relationship with Jesus Christ. She will be forever missed by her surviving son, Matthew Cathey Edwards, granddaughter, Rebecca Kelly (Ryan), grandson, Cole Edwards (Joy), great grandchildren, Mason Kelly, Olivia Kelly, Bodie Edwards and Kellen Edwards.
She will be joining her husband, Vern, her parents, Nolan and Winnifred, grandparents, Charles Volney Cathey and Maude Woodall Cathey and close double first cousin Billy Gwynn Knipp in heaven.
A visitation for Lyn will be held Tuesday, September 28, 2021 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at West End Church of Christ, 8301 E. Walker Springs Lane, Knoxville, TN 37923. A funeral service will follow from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at 11:00am at Berry Highland Memorial, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919.
