1938 – 2016
Born on December 1, 1938 in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Bill met his Heavenly Father on December 8, 2016, after his brief battle with cancer. He passed away at Grand River Hospital surrounded by family. Beloved husband of Ann (McMahon) for 47 years. Cherished father of Kim Estes (Paul), Linda Reidner (Scott), and Bill MacLeod Jr. (Dawn). His jovial spirit will be dearly missed by his grandchildren Bradley (Emerald), Brandon, Jonathan, Brooklyn, Talon, Austin, Ariana, and Emmett, as well as many nieces and nephews. Loyal pet Vanilla will long for the many enjoyable car rides they shared. Survived by his siblings Donnie (Emily), Shirley, John, and Kevin (Cathy) and their children. Brother-in-law of Rose Hanley (Bernard), Hugh (Elaine), Lawrence (June), Clair, Patricia McMahon, Michael (Maureen), Dorothy Evans (Charlie), Francis Melchin, Thomas (Noreen), and Colleen Rees (George). Predeceased by his parents Archie and Annabelle MacLeod, his parents-in-law Lorne and Doris McMahon, siblings-in-law Patrick, Gary, Bryan, Sharon and Dennis in infancy, Dale Melchin, his sister Linda MacLeod, and brother-in-law Gary Maguire. Bill lived a full life in which he dedicated 30 years towards military service (1957 – 1986). He travelled to Cyprus on 3 separate peacekeeping tours with the United Nations. He was also stationed in Germany with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. He remained active in his retirement years. He most enjoyed baseball. He loved to spend his days writing, singing, going to horse races and coordinating charity events for “The Wounded Warriors.” He served as a Eucharistic minister at Blessed Sacrament RC Church in Kitchener. “Always remember what you are is God’s gift to you and what you become is your gift to God.” Bill’s family will receive relatives and friends at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener, (519-743-8900) on Monday, December 12, 2016 from 3 – 5 and 7 – 9 pm, with family prayers at 8:45 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament RC Church, 305 Laurentian Dr., Kitchener, on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 10:00 am, with Fr. Larry Parent officiating. Interment Williamsburg Cemetery.
