Vernon Mason

Vernon (Vern) Douglas Mason – with great sadness we announce that Vern, 90 years, born February 24, 1923 and died peacefully October 13, 2013 after a short stay at Forest Heights Long Term Care Centre in Kitchener. Beloved husband and best friend to his wife of 67 years, Marjorie (nee Jacky). Kind and caring dad to Jack (Leona) of Milton and Pat Lepold (Joe) of Waterloo. Grandpa of Suzanne Legedza (Steve), David Mason (Faye), Doug Mason (Cheryl), Katie Lepold (James Horan) and Scott Lepold. Great grandpa of Lauren, Tyler, Ashlyn, Olivia and Ella. Vern worked his entire career at Dominion Tire/Uniroyal only interrupted by his 3 years of Canadian Army overseas service in Europe during WWII. Vern was a poor golfer, mediocre curler, average fisherman, avid Amateur Radio Operator (HAM radio) - call sign VE3 KPD and excellent traveller with his wife Marjorie. Our thanks to the caring staff at Forest Heights LTC for making his short stay as comfortable as possible. Family and friends may visit at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King Street West, Kitchener on Thursday October 17 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. 519-745-9495. Funeral service to take place on Friday, October 18 at 11 am in the Ratz Bechtel Funeral Chapel with reception to follow at the Family Centre. If desired, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Vern will be remembered as a considerate, thoughtful, kind and caring person. He was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
