BROWN, Margaret (Peggy) Helen (nee Cheyne). Peacefully on June 10, 2015 at home in Kitchener eight days shy of her 94th birthday. Born June 18, 1921 in Kitchener to William Cheyne and Helen Johnston of Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years Squadron Leader (ret’d.) Robert Brown (2006), and her son Grant (2013). Mother of Sandra (D’Arc) Kingham, Susan Brown, Barbara (Alan) Sutcliffe. Grandmother of Adam (Tayna) Brown, Nhung, Taffawa, and Fatima Brown, Nathaniel, Graeme (Chrissy), and Danielle Sutcliffe; great grandmother of Trinity, Alexis, Allison, Odin, Austin and Brooke.
Peggy graduated from KCI and worked as a secretary at the Equitable Life. She married Bob Brown in 1941 and began a career as a military (Air Force) wife for the next 24 years. During that time, they were posted to Aylmer, the Bahamas, Tacoma, Washington, Lachine, Kingston, Ottawa, and Trenton, among others. They returned to Kitchener in 1963 and rejoined St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir for many years, later becoming an elder of the Church. She also worked at St. Andrew’s for Rev. Finn Stewart writing the history of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, and organizing a concert tour in 30 cities across Canada for the Korean Choir from Japan as part of the 100th anniversary celebration of the Church in Canada. She was a member of the K-W Hospital Auxiliary for 20 years, a member of Group 12 at St. Andrew’s, an avid curler in her Air Force years, and a Scottish Country dancer. She enjoyed world travel, cruises and visited such places as Guyana, Bangladesh, Australia, Singapore, and rode elephants in Thailand. Many heartfelt thanks to Dr. Lois McLaughlin for her concern and diligent care. Peggy was proud of her family, felt loved by her friends and believed that everyday was a bonus.
Visitation will be at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. South, Kitchener on Sunday, June 14 between 4:00 – 7:00 PM. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 15 at 2:00 PM at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 54 Queen St. N. Kitchener, private interment will be at Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Canadian Diabetes Association - Kitchener or the Heart and Stroke Foundation - Kitchener
