Born in Cologne, Germany, in 1946, Olga's life was marked by resilience and a compassionate spirit that touched everyone she met. Olga's early years were spent in Belgium, where her father worked in the coal mines. In 1954, her family emigrated to Kitchener, Canada, with just a few hundred dollars, seeking a new beginning. Despite the challenges, Olga's gentle and kind nature blossomed. She was the beloved daughter of Anna (Pacholok) and George (Brianka), cherished sister to Christine Ignor (Joe), sister and brother-in-law Mary and Merv (Algar), Mike and Delores Roehrig, Gerry Zister, Theresa Roehrig and many nieces and nephews.
Together with her devoted husband Nick for 60 years, 57 of which were spent as husband and wife, Olga was a loving mother to Christopher (married to Carol Shane) and Natalie (Frandsen, married to Christian Frandsen). Her grandchildren, Caitlin (Roehrig), Gabriela and Juliet (Frandsen), and special family friend, Jacob, held a special place in her heart. Olga celebrated their achievements with pride, offered comfort in their times of distress, and gave her love at all times.
During her final weeks in the hospital, Olga's enduring sweetness left an indelible mark on the staff from two hospitals, across several departments and floors. Her ability to smile through pain, crack jokes, and show genuine concern for her caregivers created new friendships wherever she went.
Olga had a passion for shopping, especially for jewelry, purses, and shoes, and she delighted in finding the perfect gifts for her family. She was renowned for her generous, thoughtful, and stylish gifts. Her genuineness and honesty reflected her inner beauty and grace.
A spiritual person, Olga held her faith close and had a particular devotion to the rosary. Her life of love, compassion, and faith will continue to inspire her family and friends. Olga's memory will forever be etched in the hearts of her family and friends, who will cherish the warmth, kindness, and joy she brought into their lives.
May you see God's light on the path ahead
When the road you walk is dark.
May you always hear,
Even in your hour of sorrow,
The gentle singing of the bird.
When times are hard may hardness
Never turn your heart to stone,
May you always remember
when the shadows fall,
You do not walk alone. Author Unknown
The family wishes to thank the medical teams at St. Mary’s Hospital (emergency room, floors 5 and 7) and Freeport Hospital (Geriatric Assessment Unit and Palliative Care Unit). In particular, we are deeply grateful for Dr. Koke (GAU) and nurses Karen and Helena (palliative care) - you were angels who helped walk mom home.
Funeral services were held with the immediate family with great appreciation to Father Voisin. The family is grateful for donations to CAMH in lieu of flowers.
May her memory be a blessing. Life has changed, not ended.
