J. Leo Oscar Deguire, 82, passed away on Monday, March 21st, 2022. Leo lived a full and happy life surrounded by a loving family and a multitude of friends. Leo was born in the small rural community of Big Wood, Ontario. He served his country as a Peacekeeper in Germany alongside his brother Gerry. After his tour of duty, Leo returned to Sudbury and began working for Inco. Leo worked as a hoist inspector in several of the underground mines in Sudbury. Not long after starting at Inco, he met the love of his life Diane (Levert). Leo and Diane built their own home together in Minnow Lake where they lived until they retired. In 1980 they bought a cottage on Otter Lake where they would spend their summers until moving to Guelph in 2000. In their retirement, they wintered in both Sun City, Arizona and Zephyrhills, Florida, where they grew to love the game of golf. They were married 56 years at the time of his passing. Diane, who has been afflicted with Alzheimer’s for several years now, was so fortunate to have the love of her devoted husband. Their love is one every couple aspires to have, a true “The Notebook” kind of story.
Together, they loved their three daughters immensely. Leo leaves behind his wife Diane (currently of New Hamburg), his 3 daughters Susan Deguire of Sudbury, ON, Lisa Deguire (Steve Fortney) of Kitchener, ON, and Tina (Les) McDonald of Prince Rupert, BC. Leo was an incredible grandfather to Steven, Shannon, Melissa, Bryson, Taylor, Kiera, Brooke, and Troy. He also is survived by 6 great grandchildren. Family was incredibly important to Leo. Some of his most treasured relationships were with his siblings. He was a supportive and loving brother to Art, Gilbert, Hector, and Denis Tremblay (all predeceased), and to Eileen Fournier of Sudbury, Anita (Dennis) Low of Sudbury, Gerry (Dianne) Deguire of Brampton, and Maurice (Sue) Tremblay of Val Caron. He also leaves behind his extended family, Richard Levert, Robert (Angele) Levert, and Claudette Levert, many nieces, and nephews, and most members of his Dirty Dozen friends who were just as much family to Leo.
Leo was a man of faith, in his final moments, he received the anointment of the sick. Rest assured that he will be welcomed into paradise by his mother Yvonne (Poirier) Deguire, his brothers, and his best friends that were taken before him.
A man’s impact is based on the legacy he leaves behind; Leo was always described as a man of honour, proud, a hard worker, quick to lend a hand, a jack of all trades, loyal, and a loving son, husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. Those who knew Leo enjoyed his quick humour and his welcoming nature. Leo was a competitive and athletic man who loved playing and watching sports. His legacy will be carried on by those who love him.
