Tavares, Joe - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear brother and uncle at the age of 59 after a courageous battle with cancer. Joe passed away peacefully in his home in Amberley with his loving sisters by his side. The youngest of five children, he was predeceased by his brother Antonio Tavares and survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law Elisa and Isauro Oliveira, Teresa and Sandy Clee and Angelina and Jim McGillivray. Loving “Uncle Joe” to Idalina, Arthur and Helder Tavares, Rita Peragine, Jimmy McGillivray and Sarah Rossiar. Joe was a free spirit who loved his family, his friends and his pets with all of his heart. Joe was an interesting man with a wealth of knowledge in virtually any subject you could think of. Joe had a passion for many things; this was evident in his country property, love of music, Harley Davidson Motorcycles and the unrelenting desire to adopt every animal in need of a loving home. The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to Dr. S. Vander Klippe, his nurse and staff for their exceptional care and compassion as well as the nurses from The Red Cross and Care Partners Team 4 for their warmth and outstanding care (especially Pam and Joan for their kindness and support to the family). The family would also like to acknowledge Stan and all of Joe’s friends for their true friendship and thoughtfulness.
The family will receive friends at Westmount Funeral Chapel, (1001 Ottawa St S, Kitchener) on Friday August 9, 2013 from 10am-12pm. A Funeral Service will follow at 12pm in the funeral home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe’s honor to Grand River Cancer Centre or Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society would be greatly respected by the family.
