He leaves behind his sister Judy and is predeceased by his sister Jean. He is also survived by both of their families, including nieces and nephews on both sides.
He was a member of the Beth Jacob Synagogue in Kitchener and dedicated many years to serving his beloved Jewish community.
John taught at Galt Collegiate Institute & Vocational School for many years. He was a strong advocate for his union with the OSSTF and worked tirelessly to support his fellow educators.
John was a man of many interests but, above all, he valued time with family and friends. He spent summers camping at the OTF campground, windsurfing or canoeing on the lake, and traveling with his airstream club. In the winter he loved to ski, and in his later years, he enjoyed golfing and spending time with friends in the warm Florida weather at Village on the Greens.
John was also a passionate musician, singing and playing the ukulele, harmonica, and drums whenever he had the chance. A social and vibrant person, John always lit up the room with his big personality and sense of humour. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his memory will live on through his family and friends.
The family would like to express our gratitude to everyone who cared for John at the UHN Transplant Unit of Toronto General Hospital.
John's funeral will take place at Beth Jacob Cemetery in Kitchener, Ontario on March 23 at 11:00 am. The Shiva will take place daily at the family between 12-3pm. The family requests that you are vaccinated and wear a mask.
