Always generous, friendly and kind with a great sense of humour, Frances Schmidt (née Gross) was likely one of the nicest people you knew.
Loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She leaves behind her daughter Lisa O'Kane (Steve) and son Robert Schmidt. Three grandchildren, Shaun & Taylor O'Kane and Rainer Schmidt, along with her sister Katherine Sandrin. Will be fondly remembered by cousin Don, many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and great-nephews in Canada, the United States & Cayman Islands.
Predeceased by her loving husband Walter Schmidt and beloved son Michael Schmidt, parents John & Helen Gross and her sisters JoAnn Powers and Margaret Hack.
Francie was born and raised in Kitchener where she met and married Walter and they raised their three children while Fran worked as a medical transcriber at St. Mary's Hospital. As years went by Fran & Walter also lived in Hanover, Kincardine, Phoenix Arizona and Belize, making many close friendships along the way.
Besides a love of travelling around Canada, the U.S.A. and to distant places like Europe with her family, Fran loved gardening, cooking, reading, playing cribbage with Walter, and visits from her grand-fur-baby Charlie.
You may wish to plant a tree, donate to something you care about, play a game of cards or sit quietly and listen to a nice piece of music to honour our cherished "Granny Frannie".
Cremation has taken place and a private celebration of Francie's life will be held by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be appreciated to the ALS Society of Canada, 180 Bloor St. W., #500, Toronto, ON M5S 2V6 or to a charity of your choice.
