After a short fight with cancer, Don chose a beautiful autumn day and said goodbye as the last leaves were falling from the trees. Predeceased by his parents, Vernon and Luella (Witmer) Schott, Don leaves behind daughters Lynda Hallett and Cathy Caron (Blair); grandsons Josh and Brendan Caron; his very special Angel and soulmate, Mary Lynn Tosh Johnson as well as Bruce and Becky Johnson (Chris Ennis) and grandson Rylen. Also grieving are brothers Clare (Margaret), Cliff (Carol), Glen (Alice), Ken (Jackie), David (Denise) and sister Grace Bechtel (George).
Don was a permanent fixture at the building on the corner of Weber and Columbia in Waterloo. Beginning as a tool and die apprentice with Marsland Engineering, through the years of Leigh Instruments Ltd., then with La-Z-Boy Canada Ltd. until his retirement. An “outdoorsman” in the truest sense, much of his heart belongs to the northern bush of Bear Lake and Hunt Camp 100.
At Don's request, cremation has taken place. Friends and family are welcome to come and share stories, memories and hugs at a reception to be held Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at the Ratz-Bechtel Family Centre, from 2 – 4 p.m. (There will be a brief time of remembrance at 3 p.m., led by Pastor John Pearce.) In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society, 250 Riverbend Dr, Kitchener. A very special thank you to home care nurses Becky, Paula and Erin and to Dr. Donna Ward.
