Suddenly at the his residence in New Dundee on Sunday May 9, 2010. David lost his valiant 18 year fight against Parkinson’s.
Beloved husband of Sandra, his wife of 43 years, dear brother-in-law to Melvyn and Delya Riddell of Scotland, and loving and devoted son of Edward and Inga Lawson of Moncton,N.B., (predeceased)
David, upon completion of his Master of Science Degree at the University of New Brunswick was honoured by being awarded the distinction of Beaverbrook Overseas Scholar representing Canada and decided to study the torridonians of north-west Scotland where he met his wife Sandra. Upon completing his doctoral studies in 1966, he joined the faculty of the then fledging Earth Sciences Department of the University of Waterloo and saw many changes before retiring in 2006. David’s great joy was teaching and in seeing former students achieve excellence in their field. He loved all aspects of the outdoors and will always be remembered as having a pipe in one hand and a camera in the other recording the beauty around him. David will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Friends are invited to share memories of David during visitation at the Westmount Funeral Chapel 1001 Ottawa Street S Kitchener ( 519-743-8900) on Friday May 14 from 12-2pm. A complete funeral service will follow at 2pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Rev. Marilyn Rushton officiating. Cremation to follow.
