Caroline Mary Jane Simpson was born June 7, 1934, in Kitchener, the youngest of eight children, to her parents Charles Tindall Simpson I and Violet Matilda "Tillie" (née Hertfelder). Although named for her paternal Grandmother, Caroline "Carrie" Simpson (née Rheim), she was known as Mary Jane all her life. On Thursday, January 19, 2023 she passed peacefully at her residence of the past seven years, Bankside Terrace, after dealing with heart problems for the last 10 1/2 years and then having a bad fall just before Christmas. She is survived by her brother Ross (late Ruth) and two sisters-in-law Audrey and Jean, and by sixteen nieces and nephews. Mary Jane was predeceased by her parents Charlie in 1988 and Tillie in 1979. Also predeceased by siblings Evelyn (late Hugh) Urbach in 2014 in Peterborough, Bill in Hensall in 2022, Ruth (late Bob) Tease in 1980, Verna in infancy in 1926, Charlie II in 2020, and Violet in 2013.
For many years she worked for the former Mutual Life Insurance Co. (now Sun Life) and she was a lifelong member of Historic St. Paul's Lutheran Church, a place that was always special and important to her.
A service will be held at Historic St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 137 Queen St. S., Kitchener, on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation at the church from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. and will be livestreamed. A reception will follow immediately after at the church and then burial in the family plot at Mount Hope Cemetery, Kitchener.
