Brian Alfred Schaefer

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Brian on January 22, 2018 at the age of 66 at Innisfree House of a rare disease, Vasculitis, known as Wegener’s Disease. Brian will be sadly missed by his loving wife Pauline, his sons Michael, David (Christie) and Peter (Jenn). He was also step father to Brittany, Courtnay and Taryn Galey. Brian leaves cherished memories with his five grandsons; Nolan, Riley, Hudson, Hunter and Alexander as well as with a number of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Dorothy Schaefer (1922–1996) and Alfred Schaefer (1922–2000); and his sister Janet Sommerville (1947–2017). Brian retired from Grand River Transit in 2015 and started driving for Voyageur until the time that he became ill. The Schaefer Family will receive friends at the Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S. (519-743-8900), today (Thursday) from 6-9 p.m. and on Friday at the Kitchener Baptist Church, 1720 Glasgow St. from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service will be from the church at 11:00 a.m., with interment at Memory Gardens Cemetery. A time of fellowship and refreshments will be held at the Kitchener Baptist Church following the interment. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Ward, Dr. Rosenstein, Dr. Chernish, Grand River Hospital Dialysis Unit, C.C.A.C. and Innisfree House for their love and care during Brian’s illness. As expressions of sympathy, monetary donations to the family are greatly appreciated.
