Loving wife of 54 years to her late husband Ralph Rickett. Dearest mother to daughters Lynne (Tim) Fitzgerald, Lee (Terry) Durdon, and Lisa (Allan Scully) Rickett. Proud granny of Colin (Pam) Durdon and beloved "GG" to great-grandchildren Abby and Grady. Dear aunt to Mary and Theresa and fond cousin to Lois and Ron.
As a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital in Kitchener, she provided support to many who came through emergency with grace and compassion. As nurse, mentor, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, friend and neighbor, she left all who knew her with many fond memories. Barb loved sailing, travelling, gardening, knitting and playing chicken foot with friends and enjoying time with family. She was never without a good book to read and a crossword to complete. Always up for fun and adventure, laughter was a big part of her life. She endeared us to her with her compassion, sense of humour and caring spirit. Over the years she collected many poems and sayings. Perhaps this quote by Vivian Greene best describes her attitude and how she lived her life. ”Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass but learning to dance in the rain.” She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A heart felt thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Kensington Hospice for their compassionate care of Barb. There will be a celebration of her life for family and friends on January 21st at 2:00 pm at the Westmount Memorial Centre in Kitchener, located at 1001 Ottawa Street South. As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made in memory of Barbara to the Kensington Hospice at www.kensingtonhealth.org or to the Canadian Cancer Society at www.cancer.ca.
