Mr. William R. Shoop, Jr., age 86, of Kissimmee, Florida passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2012. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 27, 1926, he was the son of the late William R. Shoop and the late Anna Abel. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Jackie and Marlene.
William was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during WW II. While not part of the troops landing at Normandy, William did serve on a naval ship assisting with the D-Day invasion.
William had a passion for travel and loved to visit countries where he could practice speaking Spanish. After retiring from the United States Postal Service, he lived briefly in Costa Rica before returning to Central Florida to be closer to his grandchildren. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, William will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Ellen Shoop; his daughters, Darlene (Michael) Kennedy of Ocoee, FL and Charlene (Raymond) Lackey of Kissimmee, FL; his son, William C. Shoop of Kissimmee, FL; 4 grandchildren, Matthew Lackey, Meagan Shemenski, Daniel Lackey, and Michael Faber; 3 great-grandchildren, Madison, Kennedy, and Jack; his sisters, Dorothy Long, Gretchen Whitman, Doris Yeagley, and Cathy DeFazio; and his brother, Ronald Shoop.
A memorial service to celebrate William’s life will be planned at a later date.
