Mrs. Sara Lou Nicholas, age71, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2012. Born in New London, Connecticut on May 27, 1941, she was the daughter of the late George Standish Beebe and the late Ethel Viten Beebe.
Sara Lou was very athletic all of her life and enjoyed playing basketball and semi-professional softball in her younger years. She was also an avid golfer and was a member of the Stonegate Women’s Golf Association and the Stonegate Couple’s Golf Association.
Prior to raising her family, Sara Lou had been a guidance counselor at the East Lyme Junior High School in East Lyme, Connecticut. Once she and Carl had married and began their family, she became a stay-at-home mom. She loved spending time with and playing with her grandsons.
She will be remembered for her unrelenting strength and optimism in dealing with health issues and for that she became an inspiration to others.
She is survived by her loving husband, Carl J. “Nick” Nicholas; her son, Carl L. Nicholas of Denver, Colorado; her daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Trevor Chandonnait of Glastonbury, Connecticut; her grandsons, Lincoln and Fletcher; and her brother and sister-in-law, George and Mary Jane Beebe of Locust Grove, Virginia.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate Sara Lou’s life on Friday, July 27, 2012 from 1 - 4 p.m. at their residence.
Friends and family will also gather to celebrate Sara Lou’s life on Saturday, August 11, 2012 from 1 - 4 p.m. at the residence of Patricia Ference, 57 Partridge Hollow Rd., Gales Ferry, Connecticut 06335.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society of Polk County, 555 Sage Rd., Winter Haven, FL 33881.
