Margaret Ann Nelson (nee Thompson) of Broadview, SK passed away on March 24th, 2022 at the Kipling hospital at the age of 77. Margaret was the firstborn child of Everett and Gladys Thompson on August 23rd, 1944 in Regina. With her parents and little brother, Tom, they lived in Stockholm and eventually settled in Broadview.
Marge married Russell Nelson on August 3rd, 1962. They lived on the family farm near Percival where she was a devoted farm wife and mother. Together they raised two beautiful girls, Wanda and Sherrie. On June 21, 1973, a third daughter was born only to be taken by angels shortly after she arrived. Marge suffered a tremendous loss and was faced with a long recovery. During this difficult time, her brother Tom and his wife Marilyn took on the role of caring for Wanda and Sherrie. Throughout Marge's life, she could always count on them.
As the girls grew up, she was actively involved in the Brownie program where she was known as Snowie Owl. She was an active member of the community, volunteering for the Percival Hospital Auxiliary, and a faithful member of the Lutheran Church. She spent many hours tending to her garden and flower beds, caring for her parents Everett and Gladys, and participating in whatever activities Wanda and Sherrie were involved in.
A hardworking Russell would plan last-minute family getaways, where if Marge wasn't ready to go within an hour, she got left at home! They embarked on a motor home trip to Disneyland where they spent days many days on the road. Regardless of where they went, it was always an adventure.
After Wanda and Sherrie left home, Marge decided to go back to school and follow her passion for caring for the elderly. She obtained her certificate as a Special Care Aid and worked several years at the Broadview Care Home. In 2002, she officially retired and Russell downsized his farm and construction operation. They were ready to start a new chapter of their lives. Marge and Russell enjoyed spending time with their girls and watching their grandchildren grow up. Russell passed away suddenly on December 19th, 2003. This left Marge heartbroken. Once again, she persevered and found a passion for travelling the world. Irene, Winifred, and Marge travelled to Europe, explored the East Coast, and even ended up in Las Vegas with her two favourite son-in-laws. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!
In 2008, Marge found a special relationship with Lloyd Lovequist. Their friendship blossomed and it was the start of a wonderful partnership. Both were up for an adventure and decided to travel the world together. Their travels included Ireland, Hawaii, various Caribbean destinations, European riverboat cruises, Alaska, Costa Rica, and their favourite being all-inclusive vacations in Mexico. As soon as they returned home, the family was always given a picture play-by-play of every excursion they went on and had special souvenirs picked for everyone.
Friday evenings were spent at Archie's in Whitewood enjoying pizza soup and shrimp, enjoying time at various Casino's (only telling us when they won), endless hours of cribbage at the kitchen table, coffee with friends downtown, and weekends spent at the lake with family. Within this special relationship, Marge's family grew to include Lloyd's children and grandchildren.
Shortly after Russell passed away, Marge began her courageous battle with cancer. Over the course of 18 years, she beat cancer 3 times but no matter how hard she fought, she could not win the battle this time. She endured countless rounds of chemo and radiation while still finding a way to be there for her family.
A light in Marge's life was her great-grandchildren. She always knew what they were doing, how they were doing, and who needed her most. They looked forward to her birthday cards, phone calls, visits, and angel food cake with lemon sauce. They will miss their great grandma dearly.
Marge was predeceased by her husband, Russell; daughter Tammy Rae; parents Everett and Gladys, parents-in-law Einar and Helen and brother-in-law Eddie Nelson.
Left with cherished memories are her family: daughters Wanda (Jack) Soloshy and Sherrie (Randy) Flick. Grandchildren Jen (David), Jeremy (Angela), Jory (Cheramy), Adam (Tenille), and April (Joey). Great-grandchildren Pierce, Dannie, Halle, Jaren, Griffin, Rhett, Brynnlee, and Claire. Her partner Lloyd and his children Cynthia, Charlotte (Terry), and Colin (Donny). Grandchildren Orion (Chelsea), Norand, and Levi and great-grandaughter Maeva. Brother Tom (Marilyn) and their children Candice (Eugene), Dwayne (Joanne), Tammy (Damond), Tera (Billy), and Tania (Steve). Sister-in-law Nadine and her children Todd and Traci as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
