Laurence was the last child born to George and Laura Kerslake, arriving on September 23, 1932 in the town of Windthorst, SK.
Laurence attended school at Crocus School, a few miles outside of the town of Windthorst, then transferred to Windthorst School later on to complete his education. Laurence worked for the telephone company for a period of time before he started farming with his brother Wilfred, on the family farm just south of Windthorst.
In 1962, Laurence met Elsie and married her in November of that year. They lived on the NW 10-13-7 W2nd quarter until 1964, when they moved not only themselves, but their house, to the home quarter SW12-13-7W2nd. Laurence’s and Elsie’s only child, a son, Curtis George, was born in 1964 as well.
Laurence was a charter member of the Windthorst and District Lion’s Club and stayed active in the Lion’s club as long as he was able. He also was a member of the Windthorst United Church Board for a number of years and a councillor in the R.M. of Chester for 12 years. Laurence felt it was always important to give back to the community in which he lived.
Laurence was a true farmer at heart and loved harvest time the best. He farmed as long as he could and was always interested in what was going on with the farm and how the crops and cattle were doing. He often drove around the area, checking crops as most farmers do.
One of the biggest joys in Laurence’s life was his grandson, Loren. Laurence loved to babysit Loren and take him for quad rides and pull him in a sled behind the snowmobile. He would often send Loren off to school on the bus in the morning and wait for Loren to get home in the afternoon. Laurence just loved being Loren’s grandpa “through the trees.”
Laurence is survived and missed by his wife, Elsie, of Indian Head and his son, Curtis (Barb) and grandson Loren, of Indian Head. Laurence is survived by many nephews, nieces, cousins and step children and their families.
Laurence was predeceased by his parents, and all of his siblings and their spouses: Lillian Kerslake, Wilfred Kerslake, Alice (Dan) Christman, Clarence(Jean) Kerslake, Walter Kerslake, Evelyn Kneeshaw, and Gladys (Alvin) Scramstad.
The funeral service was held in the Windthorst Community Rec. Centre, Windthorst, SK on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. Interment in Windthorst Cemetery.
