Keith died peacefully in Kipling Hospital on Saturday, January 6, 2018.
Keith attended school at Crooked Creek in 1934, later going to South Arcola School. He finished his grades 11 and 12 in Arcola at age 16. Keith also attended agriculture courses in the winter. While in school at South Arcola he was responsible for firing the furnace. Keith was quite a scholar and loved english and history.
In 1947 he moved into Arcola. Keith was employed with the Grain Growers store and went to the Co-op bulk department store where he worked until 1969. He also worked with Don Hoover, Bill Hislop, the school division repair crew and was manager of the Arcola farm equipment. Keith was employed with Norman Paul Construction and was a custodian for a long term care facility. Keith was a very industrious worker and always provided for his family.
He enjoyed sports and played hockey as well as ball. He was active in coaching minor baseball and hockey, was on town council, an assistant cub-scout leader, curling club member and very involved with the Arcola Agriculture Society.
On April 5, 1958 Keith married Kathleen Winters. They had two children, Kandis born in 1960 and Brian born in 1963. As a couple they enjoyed a very active life in the community and in politics. He was also an extra in the movie “Who Has Seen The Wind.”
Keith was very proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed reading stories to them as well as in earlier years teaching them to skate.
Keith enjoyed old time dancing. He often drove a van full of friends around to different communities to enjoy this fellowship. It was on one of those occasions that Keith met his second wife, Mabel Hillhouse. Keith and Mabel were married on August 26, 2006 in Kipling. Keith enjoyed driving to Kenosee Lake and sight seeing on Sunday afternoon.
He now had the opportunity to play snooker on a daily basis at the Kipling Pool Hall. Keith was involved in several church committees, lastly Kipling United Church.
Keith was predeceased by his first wife Kathleen (nee Winters); his parents; two brothers Thomas and Robert; great granddaughter Kamara; brother-in-law Bob Kerr and step-son Calvin.
He is survived by his second wife Mabel (nee Elkington); his daughter Kandis Meikle-Cadogan and a son Brian Meikle; step-daughters: Dianne (Dave) Kashmere, Valerie (Ron) McFarlane and Calvin’s wife Cheryl; grandchildren Nathan (Jillisa) Meikle and Aaron Cadogan; great grandchildren Lillyanna and Solara; sister Lois Kerr; brother-in-law Ted Pister also Anna Pierno (Owen) and family Angelina, Darrell, Nigal, Vida, Lola and Bianca; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
