Jim was predeceased by parents Art and Mamie Smyth, brothers William (Bus), Hugh, and George, and sister in law Jean.
Jim is survived by loving wife Amaret (Hewson) of 60 years, son Stuart (Lanette) and their children Connor, Reid and Kaelan, daughter Nancy Porter (Steve) and their children Amaret and Jesse.
Jim is survived by brother Bob (Kate) of Kennedy, sisters in law Iola Smyth of Kennedy, Lorraine Smyth of Regina, Barbara Hewson of Kipling, Heather (Richard) Gosselin of Regina, Rosemary (Dave) Cowan of Kipling, and brothers in law Thomas (Mary) Hewson and Robin (Dorothy) Hewson of Langbank and Leonard (Rose-Marie) Hewson of Regina and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim was born on August 14 1928, after completing grade 12 he spent several years working in the area and from 1956 to 1961 he was the livestock shipper for the Kennedy-Langbank area. Jim and Amaret married in 1957 and farmed south of Kennedy for many years. Jim was an avid rancher and livestock owner. He was a councilor for the RM of Wawken for 14 years, and active in the Kennedy Credit Union, Kennedy Agricultural Society and Kennedy Recreation Board.
After retirement, he became an avid golfer and bridge player. In 2004 Amaret and Jim moved off the farm to Kipling and in 2016 moved to Regina.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 16 at 2:00 p.m. in the Kennedy Community Hall with interment to follow.
