Virginia “Tiny” Vogel Smith was born February 14, 1919 in Climax Springs, Missouri, to parents Peter and Lena Vogel. She graduated from Missouri Valley College in 1939, and began a teaching career spanning 40 years, teaching kindergarten to high school. She married Glen Thomas Smith in 1942, and had two sons, Mark and Reed.
Virginia lived in Galveston for over 45 years, teaching, and volunteering. She loved investing and founded two investment clubs in Galveston. She served on the board of the Galveston Opera House and the Rosenberg Library. Glen and Tiny were members of the First Presbyterian Church, and active in many civic organizations.
Virginia moved to Kingwood in 2006 to be near to family, and lost a long battle with cancer on May 11, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband Glen, brothers James, John, Bob, and Richard, and sister Marie. She is survived by brother Philip, sons Mark and Reed and daughter-in-law Stephanie, five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Visitation will be at the Kingwood Funeral Home, Friday, May 15 from 6-8 pm. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood at 11 am, Saturday, May 16.
Memorial donations may be made to the Rosenberg Library in Galveston, Texas, and the music ministry at the First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood, Texas.
