Tom was born on August 4, 1935 in Ft. Worth, Texas the only child of Lyle and Ella D. Walker. He grew up in the small farming community of Ajax, Louisiana. After graduating from Northwestern University with a degree in accounting, he met the lovely Mollie Jamison at the local Dairy Dream and fell in love. They married in 1960 establishing a home in Shreveport, La. and were blessed with two children. Always active in his church, Tom was ordained as a deacon in 1974 and served for many years. Tom worked for United Gas until 1975 when he was transferred to Houston, Tx. He worked for the same company for 35 years working his way up to Director of Gas Accounting as the company name changed multiple times and retiring from Occidental Petroleum.
At 55 years old he retired and started arguably his best chapter in life. Tom enjoyed volunteering with the Gideons, Mission trips, traveling and doing odd jobs at his church. Adding five grandchildren to the mix and becoming Pops was his favorite job. Throughout his life he had a love for travel and sharing it with his family. Together with Mollie, they visited 60 countries and had the time of their lives and pictures to prove it. His love of learning and sharing ideas was evident in his adventures.
Tom was an amazing man and an inspiration to us all: an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and most of all friend. He devoted his life to being a Christian family man. He was the husband so many aspire to be, the father most can only dream of, and the grandfather that all children deserve. Not only did he raise his children with unconditional love and support but he also did many things anonymously for others.
He will be forever remembered by Mollie his wife of 64 years; Son Steve Lyle Walker and wife Flora, Daughter Donna Jacobs and husband Bill; Grandchildren, Luke Walker, and Trent and wife Michelle Walker, Rachel, John and Julianna Jacobs and great grandchild Leo Lyle Walker;
He will be dearly missed but we know we will see him again someday.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Christian organizations that spread the Gospel are preferred.
Following the service, a reception will be held at Second Baptist church. Please join us!
