Terry was born on May 22, 1946 to Edwin E. Nichols and Aulie Daniel in Meridian, Mississippi. As he was growing up his family moved around a lot finally settling in South Houston where he graduated in 1965. After his graduation he enlisted in the Army and through his chosen path of studies he was assigned to NATO, first in Paris then in Belgium. His service in Europe instilled his love of travel which only grew.
When he returned from active duty, he started college at San Jacinto Junior College taking a few courses thinking he would never finish, but this sparked a desire to learn. Terry transferred to University of Houston, joined ROTC and earned his commission as an officer in the Army. Serving in the Army Reserves he acquired the rank of Captain in 1985.
During this time, he met Norma in 1972 and they married in 1975 and welcomed their son Justin into their family in 1982. This made their family complete as Justin has always been the sun, moon, and stars to Terry and Norma.
Terry was always a jokester and at one time the family photographer and he never met a stranger. Terry had the ability to reach out to people and help them when no one else could. He did Family Therapy and Counseling in Kingwood for 23 years and in the Army Reserves. While with Humble ISD he worked special needs children and was able to as he called it “get on their level”. Terry touched a multitude of lives as he walked through his life, sometimes without even realizing it. I always told him that he had a special gift that few people have and for that he was loved by so many.
Terry and Norma enjoyed travelling and made several trips to Europe dragging Justin with them when he was younger. His greatest joy was to be able to travel with his nieces and show them the places he had lived in Europe. They also traveled with Donna, joking who ever wants to throw a suitcase together come join us because you never had to ask Terry twice if he was ready to go somewhere.
Terry is survived by his loving wife of nearly 48 years, Norma, his son Justin and wife Natalia. In addition, there are his 2 grandchildren Shelton and Alexis. Nieces Sue (Terry), Tyra, Audra (Paul); nephews Michael, Tyson, Larry (Alicia), Kris (Renee) and Michael. Sister-in-law Donna and numerous great nieces and nephews as well as cousins. Terry is preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Tony and sister-in-law Irma.
