Su Merrill Brooks Duggan, 78, passed away on April 2, 2023. She was born on January 14, 1945 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Mary Graham Merrill and James Bradford Brooks. Su spent her young school days living in several cities in Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana before her family settled in Oklahoma City where she graduated from Northwest Classen High School in 1963. She attended Oklahoma State University for 2 years before leaving to attend Ray Vogue College of Design in Chicago, IL. She moved to Denver, CO and met Robert Duggan while skiing with friends in Breckenridge. They married on July 6, 1968. Su and Bob lived in Denver, Midland, Houston, and New Orleans before settling in Kingwood, TX in 1978 where they raised their two children, Vicki Lynn and Brad Edward.
While raising her kids, Su was a dedicated volunteer in the Kingwood community. She was active in the Bear Branch PTA, serving many roles through the years, earning the Honorary Lifetime Member award. She was also the first president of the Humble ISD Council of PTAs. Su supported Vicki’s and Brad's activities by serving as a Girl Scout leader, team mom, Cub Scout leader and more. Su was active in the mother-daughter organization National Charity League from 1985-1991. She helped start Project Graduation at Kingwood High School and served as co-chair for the class of 1991. Su joined Kingwood Women’s Club where she was an active volunteer and club member holding various board positions including President. In 1996, Su was honored with the Women of Achievement award. She was very proud of her work enhancing the KWC Marketplace at the preview party and helping to raise significant funds to support local philanthropies.
In addition to being a “professional volunteer”, Su was very creative and talented. Her hobbies included drawing, painting, silk screening, stenciling, needlework, miniature doll houses, and more. Su was an excellent seamstress, making anything from casual clothes, fine dresses, and Halloween costumes to drapes, pillows, and accessories for the house. She could hang wallpaper, upholster furniture, decorative paint and much more. She was an original DIYer.
Su cherished her Kingwood community and friends, residing there for 42 years until moving to Flower Mound, TX in 2020 to be near family. In Flower Mound, she enjoyed supporting her grandsons and their activities, especially attending basketball games regularly.
