Roland Carroll Richardson, passed away on January 26, 2020 in Kingwood, Texas. Roland was born on January 20, 1935 in Port Arthur, Texas, as the oldest son of Carroll A. Richardson and Isabel Picou. Roland was married to the love of his life, Genevieve (Genny) Linnens for 52 years before her passing in 2012.
He was a sixth generation native-born Texan, growing up in Port Arthur and Groves, Texas. Roland graduated from Port Neches High School in 1951. He joined the Texas National Guard while in high school and remained an active member for several years. He attended Lamar University both part-time and full-time as he worked and paid his way through college at various jobs and graduated from Lamar University in 1959 with a BA in Accounting. Roland began working for Dresser Ideco in Beaumont prior to graduation. In 1960, Roland married Genny, moved to Houston and began working for Claude B. Hamill, Independent Oil Operator. In 1964, he joined Magcobar of Dresser Industries. He was assigned to work overseas in Nigeria, West Africa from 1965-1967. Roland and family returned to Houston in 1967, before he was transferred to Denver, Colorado. The family’s first snow experience was cut short with a transfer to London, England in 1973. Roland and Genny returned to Houston in 1978. He decided to retire in 1997. During his career, he served as Financial Controller at various levels, Manager of Logistics & Mineral Acquistions, and was known as a leading world authority on drilling fluid minerals. Roland was fortunate to travel to over forty countries, including China, Morocco, Spain, Turkey and Scotland.
Roland loved being with his family, hunting and fishing, golfing and playing bridge. He enjoyed traveling with Genny and their close friends to Las Vegas, Greece, China, Hot Springs, New Mexico, Bahamas, Mexico and Hawaii. He loved cooking and hosting fish fries, crawfish boils, fancy dinners, poker nights. As he wrote in a love letter to Genny, “There are so many wonderful moments; I cannot imagine living a fuller life.”
Surviving Roland are his three children, Michael Wade Richardson and wife Donna; Casey Richardson and husband, Jaime Constancio; Tammy Cooney and husband, Richard; grandchildren, Dustyn Richardson and wife Randi, Shana Gallagher and husband T.J., Cody Richardson and wife Stacey, Jordan Buss and husband, Joshua, Lucas Cooney and wife Von; great-grandchildren, Henry, Tike, Vayla and Carina Gallagher, Harper Richardson and Tanner Buss; sister, Llewellen McBride, brothers, Bill Richardson and Carlos Richardson and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife Genny, Roland also was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Isabell Richardson, his sister, Marian Andrews and brother, Gilbert Richardson and many great friends.
The family would like to thank Penny Reider and the staff of Arbor Terrace and extend a very special thank you to Holli Facundo for their love and care of our father.
