Roger “Ketch” was born on September 27th, 1932, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Dr. Roger K. Trueblood, Sr. and his birth mother, Dorothy Baker, who passed away when he was young. Roger Sr. remarried Florence Felgar and together they raised Roger Jr. in Glendale, Arizona. He attended Glendale Elementary School and Glendale High School. He enrolled in Kemper Military School in Missouri and served honorably in the U.S. Navy for 4 years (1952-1956). He returned to Arizona to complete his undergraduate studies at Arizona State University. Roger went on to Baylor University, College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas where he received a Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1961. Roger returned to Glendale, Arizona to practice dentistry with his father Roger Sr. and his brother, Dr. Craig A. Trueblood.
He was married to Diane Merchant-Trueblood for 35 years. He practiced dentistry in Arizona for 44 years and during that time, served his community in many roles. He was an active member of the Arizona Dental Association and served as President in 1988. He was also active in his dental fraternity, Delta Sigma Delta, the Rotary Club of Glendale, and other civic organizations. His interests were many and his passion for life was infectious. He loved astronomy, boating, cooking, hunting and fishing. He was an avid reader of western and science fiction novels and loved listening to classical music and opera.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diane Merchant-Trueblood; and many children and grandchildren: Denise Trueblood-Heaton and her sons Nicholas Hinds and Christopher Hinds; Sharanne Trueblood-Lee and her children Bethany Hornburg-Futcher, Charles “Chip” Hornburg III, and Matthew Hornburg; Christi Trueblood-Janco; Katherine Trueblood-Clucas and her son Aaron Carter; John Trueblood and his daughters Malisa Trueblood and Elika Trueblood; James Merchant and his children Marseille Merchant-Mintz, Adrian Merchant, Ian Merchant and Dylan Merchant; and Randy Merchant; as well as 16 great grandchildren. Roger is also survived by his brother, Craig A. Trueblood, nieces, nephews, cousins and many loving friends.
A Celebration of Life for Roger will be held at Kingwood Funeral Home, at 22800 Hwy 59 North, Kingwood, TX 77339 on Friday July 5th, 2024, at 10:30 AM. The service will be followed by a lunch reception. A Committal Service with family will follow at the Houston National Cemetery.
