Bob was born on November 29, 1928, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Otto and Florence Niendorff. Bob graduated from New Jersey’s Millburn High School in 1946. An avid lover of baseball from his youth, Bob was an All-State center fielder while at Millburn. His team-leading batting average of .333 during his senior year helped lead to an offer from the Boston Red Sox, which he turned down due to the influx of established players returning to baseball from World War II.
Bob was drafted in 1950 to serve in the Korean War, and he was assigned to editing technical manuals before returning to Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, for his final two years there, graduating in 1955 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
While at Bucknell, Bob met his college sweetheart, Anne Ramsey, and the two were married in 1956. Anne was attracted to Bob for, among other things, his sense of humor, which he exhibited in quantity and quality among friends and at family gatherings.
Bob worked in the electrical transformer business in New England and in the Midwest before the couple moved to Kingwood in 1982, when Bob began working in Houston’s petrochemical industry.
Bob followed his beloved New York Yankees throughout his life, and he interspersed the joy and heartache of that hobby with another hobby to provided equal amounts of joy and heartache: golf, where he reached that sport’s pinnacle with a hole-in-one on the Kingwood links.
Bob and Anne became members of First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood upon their moving to Kingwood.
He leaves behind Anne; children Sue (Lance) McLean and Jim; granddaughter Alison Fisher (James); and great grandson Wade.
His family thanks the staff of Village Green of Kingwood for their kindness and support.
In lieu of flowers, his family suggests donations be made to the Bright Focus Foundation (www.brightfocus.org), an organization that is searching for a cure for Alzheimer’s disease and macular degeneration. The foundation’s phone number is 800-437-2423.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood located at 5200 Kingwood Drive in Kingwood, Texas.
