Mitch was born in Maddock, North Dakota in 1956. He graduated from Carrington High School and enlisted in the Army from 1974 to 1976 with his training in Military Police. After his enlistment he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Moorhead State University in MN. He stayed in Oregon with his older brother Monte and family after graduation and was soon hired by the Houston Police Department and later joined the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. He served as a Peace Officer, Patrol Officer and Motorcycle Patrol Officer for 34 years. He retired in 2018.
Mitch was a devoted Husband and Father. He was a patient man with a calming presence. His skills as a handyman and grill master were always in great demand. He sacrificed for his family and was always willing to help anyone in need. He had compassion for his family, his friends, his fellow officers and those he came in contact with on a daily basis. His work as a Peace Officer was a source of pride, service and commitment to the community. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and St. Martha Catholic Church. His love for motorcycles, cruising, boating and camping brought great joy to his life.
Mitch is survived by his wife of 16 years, Jane; children, Andrew Mehring, Lauren Mehring (Alex) and stepson, Eric Cantu; Brothers, Matt Mehring (Jayson) and Mason Mehring (Lori); Sister in laws, Ruth Mehring and Sona Mehring; Aunt Elaine (age 95); many cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Mitch is also survived by Andrew and Lauren’s Mother.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and June Mehring; Brother, Monte Mehring.
Visitation will be held at Kingwood Funeral Home, Kingwood , Texas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Martha’s Catholic Church, Kingwood, TX. The Burial will take place at Rosewood Memorial Park, Humble, TX. Reception Following.
