Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Kochman passed away peacefully in Kingwood, Texas on Saturday, November 26, 2022, surrounded by the love and prayers of her children and grandchildren. She was born in Wellston, Oklahoma on September 9, 1922, to mother Marguerite (Marshall) Gault and father William Gault.
Betty graduated from Oklahoma College for Women in 1943 with a bachelor's degree in liberal arts. She married Philip Kochman on June 25, 1944. They traveled extensively together, living at various times in Pennsylvania, New York, Indonesia, Oklahoma, Ethiopia, and California. They were married 56 years when Phil passed away in 2000. Betty is survived by her children, Jane Hemberger, Gary Kochman, and Gail and Ron Burski, her grandchildren Ahren Hemberger, Chris and Laura Hemberger and great-grandsons Spencer and Jett, Corey Hemberger, John and Sarah Hemberger and great-grandson Riker, and Daniel and Brittany Hemberger and great-grandchildren Rebekah and Isaiah.
During her life, Betty devoted herself to making a home for her family. For many years she was an active member of the American Association of University Women. She was also an ardent supporter of several charitable causes, including Hogar Infantil, The Salvation Army, World Vision, and the Philip Kochman Memorial Scholarship Fund at Fredonia State University of New York.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 pm Saturday, January 28 at the Kingwood Methodist Church, 1799 Woodland Hills Drive, Kingwood, TX 77339.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent in Betty's memory to Hogar Infantil, P.O. Box 7049, Salem, OR 97303-0031.
