Marlene Davis Corino of Kingwood, Texas passed away October 25, 2021. She was born in Hackensack, New Jersey in May 1936 and grew up in Hasbrouck Heights and Rutherford, New Jersey where she and her family enjoyed summer trips to Wildwood, N.J. and raising and showing AKC registered Boxers.
After high school graduation in 1954, Marlene entered the nursing program at Passaic General Hospital in Passaic, New Jersey. In February of 1956, she met the man who would become her lifelong love, Edward Corino, at the Passaic General Hospital Student Nurse’s Valentine’s Day Dance. After an extended long-distance courtship, Marlene and Edward were married in December of 1958. While Edward completed his graduate and doctoral studies at the Ohio State University, Marlene worked at the university teaching hospital and gained post-graduate education in nursing.
In 1963, Marlene left nursing to begin raising a family. As their children grew older, she re-entered the field of nursing, working part-time at Gulf Coast Hospital in Baytown, Texas. In 1975, they returned to New Jersey, and in 1976, Marlene continued her nursing career at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville, New Jersey. In July of 1980, the family moved to Kingwood, Texas, where she earned her certification as a critical care nurse while working at Northeast Medical Center Hospital in Humble, Texas. Marlene earned a reputation for being a dedicated, compassionate, and highly skilled nurse in the ICU department, and many families in the Kingwood community still remember her and the care she gave their family members.
Marlene retired from nursing in 1996 to spend more time with her family. She was deeply devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved, supported, and inspired each member of her family, somehow knowing exactly what they needed in the moment they needed it the most.
Marlene remained a dedicated member of the St. Martha’s Catholic Church community from 1980 until her final days. Her passion for nursing and enduring faith led her to join the St. Martha’s Second Family committee for which she would spend time with homebound parishioners, providing company and support for them. She also committed her time each week to Perpetual Adoration and prayed daily for the needs of others as a Prayer Warrior.
Marlene is preceded in death by her parents, Martin T. Davis and Madeline Davis, and by her granddaughter, Madeleine Richardson.
Marlene is survived by her devoted husband, Edward Corino; by her sister, Joan Gordon; by her children and their spouses: Edward and Leida Corino Jr., Shawn and Dawn Smith; Suzanne Richardson, and Kelly Corino; by her six living grandchildren: Amber Smith, Kelly Shawn and Justin Armstrong, James Payne, Aubrey Richardson, Allison Corino, and Morgan Payne; and by her eight great-grandchildren.
A visitation will take place on Monday, November 1, 2021 from 4:00pm - 8:00pm at Kingwood Funeral Home located at 22800 Highway 59 N, Kingwood, TX 77339. A Funeral Mass will take place Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at 11:00am at St. Martha Catholic Church located at 4301 Woodridge Parkway, Porter, TX 77365.
