Mark and I met in the late 80s, around 1988 when we were taking classes together at the University of Houston, working on our degrees in mechanical engineering. We became fast friends, mainly because we were older than most of the students, and both of us also worked in industry, Mark at Cameron, me at Dresser Atlas. Our professors would ask our opinions or get our input on the way things worked in the real world, since we were actually working full-time in the engineering domain while most of the others were full-time students. Sure felt like we were old back then, even though we were still just older kids.  One of our difficult engineering courses was heat transfer. There was one professor known for being extremely difficult and hard to pass.  Mark had taken heat transfer a couple of years earlier and had some of his old notes that he loaned me to help, and I still have them. As I recall, 31 students started the class.  By the end of the drop date, 14 of us remained to take the final exam.  Out of those 14, only 11 passed and I was one of them, barely.   I am fairly sure if it wouldn’t have been for Mark’s notes, I probably would have been taking the class over again, and maybe again.  We had multiple courses and group projects over the years and teamed up often.  With Mark you knew what you were getting.  A good, conscientious person that was responsible and supportive. I had the privilege of being the best man Marshelia’s and Mark’s wedding.  It was a wonderful event, and it was obvious they were truly in love and meant for each other. As the saying goes, life, (and death) is what happens when you’re making other plans.  Hard to believe it’s been 30 years, and I didn’t stay in touch as much as I should have.  It goes so fast and can be gone in an instant.  When you think you finally got the hang of it, it’s time to go.  Just does not seem fair. Wherever he is, it will be a better place because Mark’s there. Will miss you partner. God bless.
