Judith Ellen Phillips was born in Houston, Texas on September 12, 1955 and passed into Heaven in the early hours of May 2, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnie and Mary Nell Phillips and her brother Tommy Phillips. Judy leaves behind her son, Raphael Phillips and four grandchildren, her surviving brothers Mike Phillips and his wife Julie, Barry Phillips and his wife Sandy, Bart Phillips and his wife April, and nine nieces and nephews.
Judy and her siblings were raised in Aldine in a little wood framed house on Vickery Street. She graduated from MacArthur High School in 1974 and from Houston Baptist University in 1978 and was an active member of Freeway Forest Baptist Church during that time, singing for special events and sometimes playing her flute.
Judy taught elementary school in Aldine ISD for many years, even when the neighborhoods in the area started to decline. She had a big heart for underprivileged children, especially second graders. At one point, Judy realized that one of her students who had lost his parents in an auto accident was actually homeless. After a couple of years of working with the State and child protection organizations, she ended up adopting the boy and raised him as her own son.
Judy volunteered her time at the local public library teaching illiterate adults how to read and became a reading specialist in her school district. After retirement, she found that she could not stop teaching, so she went to work at her church's school, Spring Baptist Church Academy, for several years. During that same time, she taught second graders in Sunday School. She loved being around the kids.
Judy enjoyed traveling with her friends, she loved her pets like family, and everyone around her knew her to be a giving, loving, happy person. She will be missed.
