Joseph Haskell Smith, Jr., 64, passed away Monday August 9th, 2010 in Kingwood, Texas. He is survived by his wife Carol Anne Smith of Kingwood, Texas, sons Joseph “Jay” Haskell Smith, III of Kingwood, Texas and Carey Bryant Smith of Round Rock, Texas, brother-in-law Thurston Carey Nettles of Kingwood, Texas, cousins Bill Goggans of Greensboro, Georgia and Jeff “Tad” Hicks of Kenner, Louisiana, and nephew Rickson Bruce Powers of Orlando, Florida.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 16th, 2010 at Kingwood Funeral Home in Kingwood, Texas. The family will receive friends at 8:30 a.m. for visitation and funeral services will commence at 10:00 a.m. at Kingwood Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at the Houston National Cemetery, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Friends and family are invited to attend.
Haskell was a graduate of the University of South Carolina, where he earned a Bachelors of Science in Engineering. He advanced to become a Second Lieutenant in the United States Navy and was awarded a National Defense Service Medal before being honorably discharged from service. As an electrical engineer, Haskell was an employee of WorleyParsons Ltd in Houston, Texas.
Haskell was an electronics and automobile enthusiast. He had a passion for sports cars, computers and good food, all of which he happily shared with his family and friends. A member of the Mercedes Benz Club of Houston, Haskell devoted his life to the pursuit of happiness. Haskell embodied a rare talent for bringing out the mischievous child in each of us. Fearless in his ability to tackle life's greatest adventures, Haskell possessed an infectious charisma that will forever warm the hearts of those who were fortunate to have known him.
