On April 25, 2022 Johnnie Drew Roberts was taught how to fly. He reunited in heaven with his father H.D. Roberts and Angie Roberts.
After 65 years of marriage, Johnnie is survived by his loving wife, Harriet Ann Roberts and his children Johnnie Drew Jr. and Kahne Dean Smith. Additionally Johnnie has 4 grandchildren. Drew Roberts, Natassia Smith, Matthew Roberts and Lenora Brown.
His extended family includes Kay Harville, Charles and Hugh Roberts plus a host of nephews and nieces.
He collected and enjoyed everything with an engine, including hot-rods and old classics from Barracudas to Buicks. Campers and RV’s brought the Roberts family many adventures, and travel continued for Johnnie and Harriet after the children were grown. He loved to travel by car, motorcycle or plane. As an Air Force officer, Johnnie was able to travel with his family and pursue his dreams of flying.
Johnnie was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, on August 16, 1935. He graduated from Bolton H.S. prior to joining the air force.
He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant on flying status at Harlingen AFB in Harlingen Texas, and served his country until he retired as a Major in 1977. After retirement, he settled his family in Kingwood, Tx. where he created a new career path in commercial real estate.
Johnnie worshipped the Lord at Kingwood First Baptist and later at Porter First Baptist.
Faith in God was always his guide. His faith provided a solid foundation for his life, believing as he did that after walking to the edge of the light and taking that first step into the darkness of the unknown, one of two things would happen; He would either be given something solid to stand upon, or he would learn to fly. Johnnie learned to fly.
Family and friends will celebrate his life at 9am on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Porter Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Houston National Cemetery 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive.
