John Davis Gentry passed away peacefully on December 20, 2021 at the age of 87. He was born on August 3, 1934, in Lake Providence, LA. John was the youngest of eight children born to SM Gentry and Kate Harvey Gentry. John is survived by his wife, Katherine Fox Gentry, of Kingwood. They just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Together, they had one son, Nicholas Gregory Gentry, who has Down Syndrome and was the joy of his life. John was a devoted husband and a caring father. He loved his family above all else.
John is survived by a half-brother, Sylvester McLaurin Gentry, Jr., three sons from a prior marriage, John D. Gentry Jr. of Idaho Falls, ID, Douglas Allen Gentry of Cowiche, WA, William Mark Gentry of Pea Ridge, AR, and his stepson, John L. Penton of Lillian, AL. He is also survived by his two grandsons, William Mark Gentry, Jr. of Jackson, MS, and Joshua Neal Gentry of Jackson, MS, and five great grandchildren.
John proudly served his country in active duty with honor and distinction in the United States Navy for 20 years, and retired in 1972 as a Navy Chief. John served in combat in both Korea and Vietnam. He loved his country. After the Navy, John worked for Hartford Steam Boiler and Royal Insurance Company as a Safety Engineering Supervisor.
A memorial service will occur Monday, January 10, at 12pm, at Kingwood Funeral Home, 22800 Highway 59 North, Kingwood, TX 77339, followed by a military burial at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038, at 2:15pm
