Jason Reed Canterbury, 30, of Kingwood, TX, sadly left us on February 20, 2024 following a long battle with the disease of addiction. He was born on July 19, 1993 in Houston, TX. Jason was a joy to be around when things were going well for him. We miss him terribly, it is reassuring to know that he now has peace in heaven where he can be happy and smiling all the time.
He was an athletic person who excelled in soccer, basketball, and anything that required running. In his youth he played on competitive basketball and soccer teams. He loved moving and being outside. Jason attended Humble ISD schools and many programs aimed at helping him with the disease of addiction.
Jason is survived by his parents, Randy and Alice Canterbury, of Kingwood, TX, his brother Ross Canterbury and his wife Karen Canterbury, and nephew Weston Canterbury of San Antonio, TX, and daughter Bristyn Smith of Kingwood, TX. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and family friends who were like family, most importantly, Janice Brock of Humble, TX who befriended him, loved him, and accepted him as a young man worth helping.
I want to encourage everyone reading this to not look down on addicts, but instead advocate for better treatments that last longer than 90 days, offer job training, education, and mental health services. Unfortunately, this is not the case.
Jason always wanted to be the best version of himself, including being a good father, brother, uncle, and son. Unfortunately, addiction took over his life and he was unable to reach his full potential. He left behind journals expressing the call of drugs when he was unable to face hardship and knew it was wrong. Addiction took over Jason's life and he was unable to reach his potential to fulfill his goals and dreams. He was a joy in my life.
