Ira Cox was born in Clanton, Alabama on January 9, 1928. He moved to Texas after serving in the Army during WWII. He met his wife RuthAnn Robertson in Blewett, Texas and were married in San Antonio on November 20, 1948. They lived in Blewett, Texas where he worked at the asphalt mine. There they had two boys Timothy Paul Cox and Terry David Cox, later they moved to Odessa, Texas where Ira worked for Llano drilling company as a roughneck for many years working seven days a week to provide for his family. Later Llano was bought by Forest Oil where Ira worked in Odessa, Texas, Monahan’s, Texas, , Wyoming and Wink, Texas as a pumper in the oilfields. Once retired Ira and RuthAnn traveled in a motor home enjoying time seeing the country. They moved to Aztec, New Mexico for 7 years and then to Kingwood, Texas. Ira always loved to tell stories about his hunting and fishing trips to anyone that would listen because he never met a stranger.
Ira was preceded in death by his father William Barton Cox and his mother Mahala Jane Cox and five bothers and four sisters. He is survived by his wife RuthAnn Cox of Kingwood TX two sons Tim Cox and wife Marsha of League City and Terry Cox and wife Sherry of Humble, TX one sister Willie Naomi Owens, brother in law Wayne Robertson of North Padre Island, TX three grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Terrace of Kingwood for their loving care and support through these past years.
