

Jay was born on October 4, 1935, in Cleveland, Texas to Forest Jeptha and Willie Ruth Wright.
He graduated from Cleveland High School in Cleveland, Texas and then from Sam Houston State University with a teaching degree. Jay served in the United States Army, worked in the oil fields, then went on to his true love of teaching children. He taught elementary children, as well as high school level, eventually retiring when he was 75. Jay was remembered by many of his students. When seen in the community, they would always stop to talk with him. Jay also loved football, having played on his high school team. He enjoyed college football in the fall, always discussing with friends.
Jay found his true love later in life, Anna Hillegass. They both loved dancing, going to many dances during their time together.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Anna Wright, and sister Betty. He is survived by sister Virginia Hollis of Port Lavaca, Texas, and brother Robert Wright and wife Alice of Pasadena, Texas and 4 step children, 7 step grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren.
Visitation for Forest "Jay" Wright will be held at Kingwood Funeral Home on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 10:00am. Funeral services will begin at 11:00am with burial in Cleveland City Cemetery to follow.
