Dr. Edward Kilgore Martin, Jr.

Dr. Edward Kilgore Martin Jr. 87, formerly from Frankfort, Kentucky, husband of Mary Miles Gatrell Martin, died on March 16, 2023 in Kingwood, Texas. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Dr. Edward K. Martin Sr. and Wilma B. Martin and is preceded in death by daughter, Laura J. Martin-Thomas; and brother, James A. Martin.

Dr. Martin is survived by his wife, Mary Miles Gatrell Martin; daughter, Rebecca L. Reiss; granddaughters, Celeste and Hadleigh Reiss; and son-in-law, Jason Thomas.

He was a graduate of Frankfort High School and attended Washington and Lee University, University of Kentucky with a pre-med degree, University of Louisville Medical School, and completed his residency at University of Kentucky in Anesthesia. He went on to become a Diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology.

He served his country in the United States Navy as a Doctor and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was a devoted husband for over 55 years and loved spending time with this family. Dr. Martin was a diehard University of Kentucky sports fan, plus he had a passion for music and was an accomplished Tenor Soloist. He was a member of the Episcopal Church. After retiring from his practice, he and his wife moved to Scottsdale, AZ and later to Kingwood, TX to be close to daughter, Laura.

Dr. Martin was surrounded by his family in his home when he went to be with his Heavenly Father. A private family burial will be held in Frankfort Cemetery at a later date.
