Graveside services for Cody Sargent, 72, of Cleveland, Texas, will be held at 1:00pm, Monday, September 19, 2022 at Brookside Memorial Park Cemetery, 13747 Easter Freeway, Houston, Texas with Bro. John Ash officiating.
William Cody Sargent was the first born child of Donald and Susie (Ferguson) Sargent, born October 26, 1949, in Houston, Texas. Cody passed away peacefully, Sunday, September 11, 2022, in Kingwood, Texas.
Mr. Sargent spent most of his life in Houston, married to his wife Ginger, of 54 years. Cody met Ginger at the age of 13, then married her July 20, after they graduated Smiley High School in 1968. Theirs was an enviable relationship, because they were great friends, loving and laughing together until his last day. Together, they raised two children of which he was endlessly loved, Matthew (married to Tammy) and Tabitha (married to Cory). Cody was also exceedingly proud of and deeply loved his five grandchildren: Chandler (23), Tatum (22), Dawson (19), Russell (16) and Caleb (15).
Cody’s first love was the Lord and studying the Bible. As a long-time member and leader of his Church of Christ congregation, Cody taught as many people as he could about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He persuaded many people to follow the Lord and baptized several into the Body of Christ. A final request of his, was to have church, which we happily brought to him at the hospital.
Cody loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed going to the “show”. In fact, he actually taught his family how to quote movie lines as a unique form of communication. Cody’s love of baseball was legendary. He loved the Astros when they were originally the Houston Colt .45s, watching nearly every game possible. And when he couldn’t watch, he listened, via car or transistor radio. Cody enjoyed collecting coins, shooting at the range, and listening to myriad music types. He also loved breakfast foods more than you can imagine, especially the Waffle House, where he made very special friends.
He was an extremely generous man, offering help to anyone who needed it at any time in his life. His generosity affected many people helping them to get through life’s struggles, taking people on vacations when they otherwise wouldn’t be able to go, or simply buying someone’s meal.
Cody had two specific goals for his grandchildren (sharing similar words with Matt and Miss Tab when they were young): First, live your life for God. Second, find a mate that will walk with you in serving the Lord.
Cody is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ginger Sargent; son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Tammy Sargent of Spring, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Tabitha and Cory Cash of Cleveland, Texas; grandchildren, Chandler Thomas Sargent, Tatum Elizabeth Cash, Dawson Cody Sargent, Russell Slay Cash, and Caleb Joshua Cash; sister, Kathy Harris; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanie and Bob Purcell; brother, Mark Sargent; many nephews and nieces and great nephews and great nieces.
Cody is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Susie Sargent.
