Burl William Dowden

Burl William Dowden, age 70, passed away October 5, 2023, at his home in Crosby, Texas. He was born on July 17, 1953, in Beaumont, Texas. Burl had 2 brothers and 3 sisters and 2 half-sisters’ . He was the beloved husband of Colleen West Dowden and the loving father of Brittany Dowden Nichols Doepping and son-in-law Charles Doepping. He was also blessed with three beautiful grandchildren, Makaela Michelle Nichols, Alyssa Colleen Nichols, and Hayden William David Doepping. He leaves behind sister Nawasa Gay Dowden and half-sister Anna Dowden, and numerous in-laws.

Burl had a successful career as the owner and operator of Sterling Machine and Fabrication for 30 years. He was known for his dedication and skill in his profession by both employees and clients.

Outside of work, Burl enjoyed spending his free time playing golf. This brought him so much joy and allowed him to relax and connect with his close golfing buddies. He was always the loudest and funniest in any gathering big or small. He loved hosting his annual Easter Crawfish Boil where a great time was had by all. He loved music and singing to his precious grandchildren and watching game shows.

Burl is preceded in death by his twin, Earl Robert Dowden, sister Doretha Sue Avery, brother Stephen Madison Dowden, sister Laverna Lee Suire, sister Shannon Dowden, mother Bernice Goade Dowden, and father Robert William Dowden. Along with numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed by his surviving family and friends.

Honorary Pallbearers are Tommy Coughlin, John Davis, John Gandy, Stanley Jorgensen, Kenny Lange, Dennis Keister, Kenny Kimble, George Meir, Jimmy Smith, Weldon Ware, Mike Willeford, and all his golfing buddies.
