Albert John “Al” Wehe was born on May 29th, 1936, in Loyal Wisconsin to John and Martha Ampe Wehe. He died on April 12th, 2024 in Kingwood Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Marcy Wehe Carr, Mary Ann Wehe Meysembourg and Andy Wehe Weyer, his beloved Aunt Sister Imelda (Louise) Wehe and his uncle Bernard “Clem” Wehe.
Al attended Pleasant View School – a one room schoolhouse. His mother Martha was killed in a tragic auto train accident when Al was 9. He helped his father work their 80-acre dairy farm. He attended Loyal High School and later graduated from San Diego High School after he was discharged from the US Navy. Before joining the US Navy in 1956 Al worked in Wilmette and Chicago Illinois with his cousin Jerry Schuld who was like a brother to Al. After attending US Navy boot camp at Great Lakes Illinois, Al served as a Machinist Mate on the USS Epping Forest home ported in San Diego California. Al made two trips to the Western Pacific and was a Machinist Mate 2nd Class when he was Honorably Discharged. While in San Diego he met Peggy Carter. They were married at St. Patrick’s Church in San Diego on October 12th, 1963. In 1964 Al and Peggy purchased a home on Via Carancho in San Diego where they lived and raised their children Chris and Sandi. They were active members of several local Catholic Parishes in San Diego. Al began working at Control Data Corporation before his marriage to Peggy and worked there for over 20 years. He went from mailroom clerk to department manager. He later joined Hewlett Packard Corporation where he worked until he moved to Texas in 1988 when he joined Compaq Corporation as a Printed Circuit Board Designer in Houston Texas. His attention to detail and work ethic made him a highly respected printed circuit board designer. Peggy and Al moved to Houston in 1988 and purchased a new home on Emerald Grove Drive in Kingwood. They joined St. Martha Catholic Church where Al was active as a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Ministers of Hospitality, Perpetual Adoration Ministry and helped Peggy with the 2nd Family Ministry. Al was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Compaq Computer merged with Hewlett Packard and Al retired from HP in 2002. One of Al’s proudest accomplishments was finishing the Compaq Houston Marathon in January 2001 in under 5 hours. In retirement Al found more time to golf and work in the yard – he was a farmer at heart and cheered for his favorite football teams – the Texans, Chargers and Packers. He also continued to stay in shape by running, then walking at least 10,000 steps a day and participating in Jazzercise for over 30 years. Spending time with his granddaughter Caitlin was his favorite thing to do.
Al is survived by his wife Peggy, his son Christopher and his wife Jenn Price Wehe of Houston TX, his daughter Sandi Wehe of San Diego CA and the joy of his life granddaughter Caitlin Moore Wehe of Houston TX and her mother Michelle Moore Wehe, & Caitlins other “Poppy” Frank Moore of Houston TX, his sisters Helen and brother in law Norbert Olson of Franklin Wisconsin and a brother and sister in law Ray and Sandy Wehe of Stetsonville Wisconsin and numerous nieces and nephews. Al had so many people who loved and care about him that the list is too long to publish, and they know who they are. A special thank you to the staff at Kingwood Memory Care and Assisted Living who cared for Al on this last day.
