

Vergie was born in the Stanley Valley area of Hawkins County, TN but spent the majority of her life in Kingsport. She retired as office manager at Hawkins, Bingham, and Miller Law Firm after many faithful years of service. After retiring, she fully enjoyed her hobbies of camping, quilting, crocheting, sewing, and gardening.
Vergie loved the Lord and read her Bible daily until her illness took that away. She was a member at Reservoir Road Baptist Church, but was attending Pleasant View Baptist Church. She loved children and spent many years teaching Sunday School and Bible School.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Denver Blair; her son and daughter-in-law Randell and Sherry Blair; her parents, John and Callie Horton; sister, Sue Stapleton; sister-in-law Peggy Horton; and brothers, Pleas Horton and Otis Horton.
Those left to cherish her memory include: her son, Keith Blair and wife Teresa; grandchildren, Ray Blair and wife Amy; Melinda Wilcox and husband Justin; great-grandchildren, Travis Blair and wife Keyli, Aaron Blair, Ava Wilcox, and Drake Wilcox; great-great-grandson, Cohen Blair; brother, Herbert Horton; sisters-in-law, Drusilla Horton and Willie Horton; brother-in-law, James Stapleton; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12-2pm on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2pm in the chapel with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating. Graveside services will follow the funeral at East Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden of the Good Shephard.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Vergie’s honor to Pleasant View Baptist Church, General Fund, 2101 Stadium Drive, Kingsport, TN 37664.
The family would like to thank the staffs of both American House Kingsport, and Gentiva Hospice for the exceptional care and love they provided to Vergie.
